Swamp Milkweed Nectarbird
Bibinectarium asclepias
One of the most decorative of the Nectarbirds, the Swamp Milkweed Nectarbird is nearly indistinguishable from its native foliage when nestled among Swamp Milkweed blooms. These nectarbirds have a very small and narrow tongue, to feed on each individual, tiny blossom without damaging the plant as a whole. Bees sometimes mistake this Nectarbird's head plumage as actual flowers, and usually end up snatched up as a snack by its quick beak.

A number of pigments, but mainly combinations of Medium Magenta (Liquitex), Crimson, Pale Lemon (both Windsor & Newton), with glazes of cadmium red and small, sparing touches of cadmium yellow here and there. For darker pinks, I combined Dioxazine Violet with a bit of Crimson and a touch of black.
