One month after Nick's graduation:
ZNN begins with Peter Moosebridge and Fabienne Growley.
“Good morning Zootopia, I'm Peter Moosebridge.”
“And I'm Fabienne Growley.”
An image of a male timber wolf with black and white fur appeared next to Moosebridge. “Our top story; famous actor and musician, Finnrir Howler, has said that he and his fiance have finally decided on the date their wedding will be held here in Zootopia.”
The camera cuts to Fabienne as an image of a female piebald deer appeared next to her. “Said fiance, famous actress Cervina Artemis, says that many of her fans have claimed that this will be the 'Wedding of the Century'.” She chuckled a little. “A title I believe the happy couple are more than okay with.”
The camera zooms out to show Moosebridge as he chuckled as well. “Indeed. Who would've thought two friendly rivals for years in the film industry would ever end up here?”
“I don't think anyone did. Not even themselves.” The camera zooms in back to Fabienne as the photo of Cervina fades and is replaced with one of Leodore Lionheart. “In other news, former mayor of Zootopia, Leodore Lionheart, is seeing an early release from prison today after a lengthy legal battle in court. While some residents of the city are still unsure if they can trust Lionheart after the Night Howler incident, many are in fact pleased to see the lion who kept the city safe from the predators who had turned savage, finally allowed to walk the streets again.”
The camera then cuts back to Moosebridge and an image of Judy and Nick appear next to him. “Many will remember the acts of the brave rookie cop Judy Hopps, and former street hustler Nicholas Wilde, being the ones who exposed Dawn Bellwether as the culprit behind the savage animal incidents that plagued the city so many months ago.” The image of Judy fades and the one of Nick is enlarged to fill the space. “Nicholas Wilde has since joined the ZPD as the very first fox officer and partner to Judy Hopps, the ZPD's first rabbit officer.”
The camera zooms out to show Fabienne in the shot again. “A true dream team in the making. One can only image what sort of new case this unique duo are investigating as we speak.”
On the streets of Savanna Central, Nick Wilde is seen in his green Hawaiian shirt, while pushing his stroller with Finnick in his elephant outfit riding inside it. “I still think this isn't going to work Nick.”
Nick smiled. “Trust me, it will. Just play along. We got this.” Nick then turned down an alleyway and casually strolled down to and stopped at an “L” shaped intersection between different buildings. “Hello?” He and Finnick looked around. “I'm told this is where we could find the Forger Ferret? I got a request that I think he'd be interested in.”
Metal rattling could be heard above them. They looked up to see a ferret climbing his way down a fire escape and into the alley. He appeared to be younger than Nick, wearing punk rock attire and a jacket. “Dude, keep your voice down. Some of these walls are paper thin.” He gestured in surprise. “Wait a second, I know you. You're Nick Wilde!”
Nick held his hands up and smirked. “Easy there, I'm not on duty.”
The ferret backed up a little. “Yeah well, you're still a cop. So I ain't got nothing to say to you.” He started to make his way over to the ladder leading up the fire escape. “By the way, I never said I was the Forger Ferret just because I AM a ferret. So you can't arrest me anyway.”
“True, true.” Nick lowered his hands while keeping his smirk. “But see, the thing is, I couldn't arrest you even if I wanted to. I got suspended from the force.”
The ferret stopped just as he grabbed hold of the bar on the ladder and turned around. “Suspended? You?”
“Yeah.” Nick rubbed the back of his neck embarrassingly. “Turns out trying to solve cases with unorthodox methods is frowned upon at the ZPD. Guess I still have some sly fox hustler in me.” Nick then placed his hand on the stroller. “My buddy Finnick here can vouch for me.” The ferret looked at Finnick curiously.
“Yeah,” Finnick said casually. “It's true. Nicky here got on Chief Bogo's bad side a little too much and now he's grounded for a while.”
The ferret looked back at Nick, and he shrugged while making a shameful expression. “Gotta find a way to make an honest living until I'll allowed back, right?” The ferret still looked cautious while still appearing as though he'd leave up the ladder. “Hey, I'll tell you what.” Nick held his hand up to gesture swearing an oath. “I swear on my partner Judy Hopps's soul, that I won't arrest you or sell you out to the ZPD if you make forgeries for me.”
The ferret pondered for a moment, and then let go of the ladder and placed his hands in his jacket pockets. “Okay. I'll take your word for it. What is it you're looking to have forged?”
“Well,” Nick said as he casually walked up to the ferret. “I want to get back into hustling Pawpsicles. Best way I would make some money before becoming a cop.” He gently rested his hand on his shoulder guided him away from the ladder towards Finnick's stroller. “But I need a new permit and receipt of declared commerce to do so. Think you can help me out?”
The ferret gently backed away from Nick and took his hands out of his pockets. “I can do that. Easy peasy. Gonna need payment up front first.”
“Gonna hand it off to the real Forger Ferret, huh?” Nick reached his hand into his left pocket to grab his wallet. But the first thing that was taken out, was the carrot pen. He grabbed it with her right hand, then proceeded to grab his wallet next.
“Actually, I AM the Forger Ferret.” He shrugged. “Just didn't want to admit it to a real cop to avoid an arrest.”
“Totally understandable.” Nick then pulled out his wallet as well as a police badge.
“Wait,” the ferret said. “Why do you still have THAT?”
“Oh this?” Nick held up his badge and wallet.”Well the thing is...”
Nick then made a smug grin and held up the carrot pen and pushed the button. “Actually, I AM the Forger Ferret.” Nick put the pen back into his pocket. “I'm still on active duty as an officer of the ZPD. And YOU my good sir, just gave me the evidence I needed to place an arrest.”
Panic flooded the ferret's face, and when he moved to try and run down the one alleyway that Nick and Finnick had come down earlier, he saw Finnick standing out of his stroller with his arms crossed and blocking his way. When he looked back at Nick, he saw that he was also blocking his means to use the ladder to go up the fire escape. The only direction he could go to try and escape was the one alleyway not being blocked.
As he ran away, Nick continued to stand where he was with the same smug grin as he watched him flee. “Aw, ain't that cute? He's trying to run away.” Nick then placed his finger up to his ear onto an earpiece. “Hey Carrots? He's heading your way, just like I planned.”
As the ferret ran through the alleyway till he made on to the sidewalk of the street, he failed to notice Judy hiding behind the wall waiting for him to emerge. In an instant, she shot a tranquilizer dart into his shoulder. He collapsed to the ground with a few onlookers wondering what just happened. Judy placed her dark gun onto her belt and casually walked over holding a pair of handcuffs. Nick and Finnick soon emerged from the alleyway and walked over to her as she placed the cuffs on the ferret. “Nice job Nick. I'd say this case is closed.” Judy said as she wiped her hands and then placed them on her hips.
Nick held up his left hand to gesture for a high-five, and Judy proceeded to give it to him. “Another win for the Dream Team.”
