There was only so much time left that plush toy could hold the spell for Chelsey, but Demona struggled to think of where she would go. When the spell wore off, where would she hide? How would one even hide a nine-foot cow woman? Buildings couldn’t have been of use, yet the city had them everywhere. The streets couldn’t hide everything at night. It was possible Chelsey could have driven her car out of the city and off to hide in the woods. Possibly never seen, possibly to just die. Or… Demona was overreacting. Chelsey was a grown woman, she wouldn’t think things as drastic as her. She took a breath and thought again about where they would hang out in the past, and the first place she thought to look around was the mall.
Her first stop was at the food court, she walked around, asking if people had seen a strong woman carrying a tiger toy. She was directed from the food court to a large arcade, but there was just a crazy old lady there. Demona tried to follow other leads, but it often led back to the woman. Eventually, she gave up and tried for another spot.
Demona was going to try clothing stores, but there were many of those in the area. She had to think real hard on where would be the best place, recalling some of the clothes Chelsey used to put on too. Tracing very old steps, she came to a store and asked around and she DID find a lead. They said the lady was last seen near the dressing rooms, and- it was that same crazy old lady.
“Why is it so hard to find Chelsey?” Demona said, “She has to be somewhere, and someone was bound to see a woman with a tiger plush.”
“Sure, she came here.” The old woman said, “She was trying on some shorts and a T-shirt. She bought a complete outfit and left.”
“You saw all this?” Demona turned to the old lady, surprised, “Did you hear where she was going next?”
“Well, no, I didn’t. My husband did.” And the old lady held up her doll with orange, paper, triangle ears taped to it.
“Umm… So what did she say?”
“She said she was going to do what she always wanted to do, while she still could.” The old lady said, “Isn’t that right, sweetheart?” And she hugged the doll.
“What does she always want to do? With short clothes?” Demona backed up and thought about that. “The Park.” She looked back at the woman,
“Thank you, Miss.” And she started to run out.
“By the way, if you see my sister, tell her to put down that stupid doll of hers.”
