That may be true and yet somehow I still manage to grow fond of all your black/white color schemed characters...
Even still, i admit a little hue to these monochrome shades might be interesting.
I also like the idea of the colored strands and part of the hair changing to denote the identity.
I need to see more of them!

There's corvids with other color schemes, like the... blue jays? Seriously? That feels like every vegetable somehow being a cultivar of broccoli.
If you're looking for a dichotomy between an M/F pair (or M/F "object duality") consider the red-winged blackbird. Males are still black, but have regal pauldrons. Females are so mottled that they're striped. And the males are so damn noisy.
