Many found his name unusual throughout his mortal life, and a near-death experience made it seem like a darkly humorous prophecy. Grimson, once just a human living an ordinary life, is locked into the life of a reaper, having made a deal with one that came to him after a traffic accident he’d been in at age 26. He was nearly the incident’s only casualty, having gotten the worst of it, but he made a miraculous recovery. Then came the physical changes, his skin taking on a cadaverous color and his eyes turning blood red. He began to discover he had new superhuman abilities too, like improbable strength and being able to walk among others without them even realizing he’s there. Finally, he was gifted his reaper scythe, which could be turned into wings on his back to fly with. He’d fully become something that was not quite human yet not entirely a monster. From then on, his job as a reaper was to collect the souls of the freshly deceased and bring them to where they’d be sorted out. In the years since then, Grimson — who should be 39 now yet hasn’t physically aged a day — has gotten very used to this new life. His family and friends of course know of all this, have done all they can to support him and continue to treat him no differently than when he was human. About a year ago, he also found a new job as a guardian for the vampiress Fiona Fraier’s family and their estate, taking up residence primarily in her castle’s clock tower. Somehow it just felt right. He’s now sworn to protect Fiona and her children should they need him, and his services will certainly be tested now that monster-related hostilities are on the rise. Between the reaper’s guardian job and soul harvesting, he may find himself quite busy…
