okay, so i've both read and watched gachiakuta. and rudo, the main character, has the exact look in his eyes i wanted for molly. so i drew this
okay, now let me go on and on and on about this series
OH. MY. GOD
gachiakuta is punk as hell. i was fully expecting more edgy "main character wants revenge" stuff, but that fizzled out real quick and actually turned into the most hype, punk, and weirdly goofy thing i've ever watched.
i just HAD to read the manga after that and OHHH MY GOD ITS GORGEOUS.
i loved learning that there were actually two artists working on it, those being a mangaka and a real graffiti artist. it genuinely made me want to draw something every time i watched an episode.
i also watched a video about how it was definitely influenced by black graffiti culture from the 1970s, since it has all these themes of class and community, which definitely factor in.
Oh and the FASHION and the MUSIC. we've got punk, hip-hop, and just all around awesomeness. i've also never seen characters that are really designed like this, it just doesn't feel like a shonen anymore. it just feels generally special
also also also! all the female characters are cool! i'm so used to terrible anime women that i was BLOWN AWAY!!!
we also have black characters who aren't horrible caricatures, and we've even got a non-binary character!
AAAAAA ITS JUST SO FREAKING COOL
there's a few pretty dark things (murder, segregation, Amo's super messed up backstory like i'm not kidding that's definitely gonna get under your skin) but i think it's all handled pretty well, and is worth it.
basically, if you're an artist, or just like cool stuff, watch or read Gachiakuta.
also if you go with the anime, watch the english dub. trust me, it's absolutely superior.
