A baby Sika Deer in Nara Park. She was walking around making the most bizarre noise. She darted off when kids started chasing after her though.

It was probably bleating, and it is high compared to other deer.

Bleating, that's the sound it was making. Poor little thing was probably upset about being chased by kids.

I raise deer my self and that is a common sound that hey make. If they are startled, they will make a barking sound, and when caught, they will make a loud yelling cry, that will send chills down your spine. The bucks bleats are more like grunts when they mature.
