Wild Cards: Jack and Ace, Part 15
“Finally, we’ll have you out of our hair.” The wolf said, swinging low with his hammer, while the coyote swung high.
At the last moment, Lightshow dove between their swings, and rolled between the fires. She looked back at the two, who were very frustrated, but they were also standing next to some fireworks she had dropped in that corner. The wild flashes and loud pops they made were startling, but weren’t close enough to hurt them that time. Lightshow didn’t waste much time. The building was now burning down; she made a run for the door, running between the fires. She vaulted over a display table, then ran for a broken window, then was yanked back. She looked back, then spun and twisted.
The wolf had a hold of her shirt, but missed his swing when she thrashed against her. She tried to get away, but the wolf didn’t let go of her. While the wolf held her up, the coyote got outside, and was about to leave. The wolf and Lightshow pulled against one another, until Lightshow fell down.
Looming over her, the wolf raised his hammer, “The fun is over, Cat.”
Panicked, Lightshow still tried to twist or pull away.
Then a blasting cloud of cold mist rushed them both. The flames outside were doused as a covered figure ran in. “Freeze!” he shouted as he pushed the wolf off of Lightshow. The wolf howled in pain as he held his frost-bitten arm. Frostbite stood beside Lightshow, fists raised for a fight, “Light are you okay?
“Yeah, thanks to you.” the cat smiled and got up, “Now things are a lot less fair.” And she lit a pair of roman candles.
