The sisterhood split for the night, Tiger Eyes and Angel taking Marshal and Devon to the hospital. Meanwhile, Circuit had taken Copeland where she could rest safely. Copeland was being carried over Circuit’s shoulders, but she was able to spot some familiar sights on Circuit’s route.
Copeland, however, insisted on not going back to Analie’s apartment. Instead, they went more toward a slums section and stopped under a bridge. There, they both stopped. Copeland was set down to rest, somewhat. Circuit took the time to take off her makeup and fix her scarf.
While the moment was taken, Copeland took out her phone and started texting. She sent a message to her brother, waiting to hear what had become of Devon.
After a few messages back and forth, Copeland sighed, “They got her there, and Dev’s stable now. But they’re wanting to keep her overnight.”
“Hopefully, they can find a way to stabilize it.” Analie fixed her hair and scarf. “I doubt they could find a cure. If magic is real, and used in this disease’s creation; then it’s with works I haven’t even studied.”
“They should start studying it, maybe my brother would.” Copeland said, “He’s going through college.”
“That is a slim chance. But not impossible.”
“What other choice is there?” Copeland said, ears going back, “Devon isn’t like my brother and dad. She actually can die; She could either die or… or…”
Analie sat down beside Copeland, and then held out her phone. A message displayed on it, “It depends on what happens. It seemed to flair and progress based on your choices. It just progressed more when the plague was put as a greater dose in you.” She made a gesture to the eyes as the message changed, “Some effects do seem permanent, but you resisted giving in.”
“More than you think?” Copeland said, “I wanted to beat people in there, rip them apart. But I kept turning it down, it was like everything was burning inside.” She turned her phone to the camera app and used it like a mirror. “Dang, sharper teeth, red eyes… I look like a vampire. I couldn’t imagine what I’d look like giving in.”
Analie changed her message, “Horns wouldn’t really be useful for you.”
That got Copeland to laugh and jab Analie’s shoulder, “I didn’t know you had a sense of humor.” She calmed again, and looked at the text messages on her phone, “You said it was based on a common sin, right? Would Dev’s sin be wrath, like me?”
Analie shrugged.
“Well, I suppose we’ll find out or not at all.” She tucked her legs in, “All because of me.” She then looked to her mute friend, “There’s something else I’d like your help with. If this is gonna be taken seriously, I don’t want to risk my family being in danger like this again.”
Analie looked at her and nodded, and changed the message on her phone. “What do you need?”
