THIS is not a reptile or even a synapsid dragon. THIS is a Monotreme, a Mammalian Dragon in the same family as the Platypus which has convergently become a Dragon Species living far far to the south. Honestly this species may never actually be seen in story but I learned that Monotremes are one of the most ancient branches of Mammals in Prehistoric history and I was inspired to try to make a Monotreme Dragon mainly based on everyone's beloved weirdo: The Platypus.
The Platypus already feels like a fantasy creature: They look like a chimera of a Duck and a Beaver, they lay eggs, the mothers don't have nipples but sweat milk, the males have a venomous spur on their heel, they have electroreception and sonar for hunting prey in the water, and they are BIOFLORECENT and glow Teal under a blacklight. These Weirdos are glorious.
The Boondaburra fill an ecological niche like Seals or Otters living on the Banks of Beaches and Rivers. Their wings are incapable of flight but produce bursts of speed in the water in pursuit of fish. Their Backs are covered in scales like a Pangolin giving them protection from other predators in the water by turning their backs to them so they can't bite onto their softer bodies and the scales glow to intimidate or confuse. This glow is also useful for communication and display of a Boondaburra's fitness and health.
Their magic allows them to create Mirages and Illusions to help them trick prey and escape predators, but also they utilize Illusions for expression, communication, and story telling.
