This is Stripes! He's our (Skylor and my) New baby! :3
He's a 2 year old, fixed, male ferret.
Isn't he just the cutest thing you've ever seen? *flails*

I would love to love ferrets, everyone I know who's kept them says what brilliant, intelligent animals they are and they do look so damn cute, buts its their teeth... They worry me! o_O;
We have a huge ferret welfare and rehoming group in the local town and they hold ferret races which are possibly the weirdest and most amusing things ever because the animals often deside to do just what they please and often stop to have a massive play orgy during it.
Bless 'em.

The teeth aren't a worry. You already know how intelligent they are from friend's reports, then try this one on for size. Ferrets have extremely tough skin, it's why they play rough with eachother.
No different from any other animal, except one thing.
Ferrets are smart enough to realize that not everything is as "tough" as they are. Humans and their skin for one thing. They may nip you once or twice, but just let them know it hurt, or show them what they did.
They'll very quickly figure out that it's bad, not because they were scolded, but they actually hurt their playmate. They don't want you to be hurt anymore than you want to hurt them, because if it happens, both parties in this case realize that all they've done is lost a friend and playmate.
Ferret Fact Corner is now closed.

Grr. I have been tempted to get my girl another playmate and I think that seeing this, I have made up my mind. She needs more things to love. I have her out most of the day but playing with our dog is just not as fun as having a buddy to curl up at night with. <3 He is adorable though. Did you get him as a rescue?
