While not remembered by most, Apoy na Hayop has resided on Luzon, the largest island of the Philippines, for over a millennium, and was worshipped by the island natives long ago. Hayop is a fire deity and watcher of the rainforest who takes the chosen form of a large tiger man, and he was known to protect and provide for the island’s people and wildlife alike, even after the Spanish colonization. By the 1900s, however, he seemed to have been largely forgotten, as most Filipinos were Christians by then. That, however, never dampened his good nature or high spirits, and he continued to secretly help those in need, although he mainly stayed hidden away in the area surrounding his home temple. Those who found the temple were said to be granted everlasting protection and plenty of luck if they were good, and especially if they left a thoughtful offering, but would be violently repelled if they came bearing bad intentions. And speaking of bad intentions, he’d felt the worst of them filling the air lately. Knowing instinctively that he was needed on a larger scale than ever and seemingly compelled to fight by some supernatural force, the tiger readied his blade and set out to find and take down any monster that threatened the world’s safety.
