got a really lucky shot of the muzzle flash off my SR-15. I had put an arredondo tank style muzzle brake on it, so it makes a really cool pattern.

I had to work as a range officer once at a local shoot when a competitor had a "Miculek" style brake on his AR ... ugh worst migraine ever I had a nosebleed and could barely hear anything after that . and I was wearing plugs AND a nice set of electronic muffs...
He shot well and recoil off of his rifle was low , but man that brake was downright HOSTILE to bystanders...

yeah, well, I figured it was a personal rifle, so I might as well build it on the assumption I would be by myself.
a buddy of mine has one of those iphone noise meter things, from five feet away it sounds like a .308, so its not THAT bad. I sure wouldn't want to be next to it in a stack, though.

o.k. .308 like decibel readings are a LOT gentler to the ears than a Miculek brake still awesome rifle should be just about perfect as a tourney gun.
brakes like that while loud usually do wonders to tame recoil and on a 5.56 / .223 AR recoil should almost be nonexistent.
I still need to take one of the Mosin Nagants we have here and cut / recrown the barrel to 16.5" ad toss one an INSANE brake.
Made SPECIFICALLY to scare the crap out of the range fudds who take up wayy too much space & time with their .22's on the "assault deck"... ( It's meant for full auto and "assault" rifles!) just show up and ask "is it ok if I fire a "bolt action"
