I swear by whatever gods care to listen and approve... one of the shittiest things in the English language is a complex thing like "love" being flattened into a single word. Loving your family. Loving your friends. Loving your pets. Loving your hobbies. Loving a partner. Lusting after whatever it is you lust for. All of this getting flattened into "love", causing untold amounts of confusion in people and making a person a target for whatever snide nonsense can be dredged up.
You can love someone and not want to actually sleep with them.

It used to be six back when I was studying. Looks like more have been recognized since then.
Agápē (ἀγάπη): Unconditional, selfless, charitable, divine/universal love.
Érōs (ἔρως): Passionate, intense, often sexual or romantic love, related to desire.
Philía (φιλία): Deep affection, friendship, loyalty, and connection between equals.
Storgē (στοργή): Natural, affectionate bond, like the love between family members.
Ludus (λούδους): Playful, flirtatious, uncommitted love.
Pragma (πρᾶγμα): Enduring, mature love that develops over time, often seen in long-term relationships.
Manía (μανία): Obsessive, possessive love, often a chaotic state of being "in love".
Philautía (φιλαυτία): Self-love, which can be healthy (self-care) or unhealthy (narcissism).
Xenía (ξενία): Hospitality, guest-friendship, or ritualized friendship.

As empathetic as Lopin is, this sort of problem is far outside of typical Yinglet experiences. They just don't have this sort of relationship!
But he is empathetic to recognise that the yinglet approach ("You don't have to hump to be his friend, there are lots of other people you can both hump!") isn't going to help, while a less sensitive ying might not understand this.

Monosexuality is a trip sometimes, I feel you Isher. I knew some guys who I thought were smoking hot before they got to take T and the moment the hormones showed the attraction just disappeared in a puff of smoke. Absolutely nothing going. Can be complicated, especially in this kind of situation where Kass probably still thinks of himself as male and human with an affliction more than female yinglet, but alas if Isher's just not attracted to the current body.. well it's not a good situation for anyone to try and force it
I want to thank Valsalia, oniontrain, Koof, guest artists, and everyone else who works on Out-of-Placers for another fantastic year of comics! You guys have produced outstanding work on a demanding schedule during a less than ideal year! I wish you all a 2026 you'll be able to look back on with pride and fondness.
In addition to his duties as patriarch of exposition Lopin now becomes the universe's first yinglet therapist. Surely nothing bad can happen with trusting one's mental health in the trusty paws of a scav twink.

Hrm... Poor Isher. it's tough. She has a lot of questions she needs answered, and clearly needs to do some soul-searching for things to go well. Her self-doubt is not helping, of course.
The fact that she thinks she might be a bad person because of her attraction already shows more concerns for Kass that a lot of people would have. So she's not horrible.
But it's true that things have changed since the transformation, and it's not simple.
It's easy to ay you love someone when you're attracted to them. It might even blind you to their flaws if the attraction is great enough. But then there's emotional attachment, getting along, habbits, context... There's a lot more to love than just attraction, and there's a lot of different loves.
Not that Kass is happy with the changes either. She's trying to deal with it all.
I picture she might have to take apart her notion of love, and pick what she still appreciates about Kass, outside of the attraction, and go from there. Takes a lot of soul searching, and it won't be easy. Might even have to open up to Kass about everything, and that's a whole other problem.
I don't envy the poor girl, and I doubt it'll be that easy either.

Yisss the peer counseling scene. This is so much about personal and interpersonal insecurity rather than orientations. Also makes me wonder how Kass would respond to the idea that Isher saw him that way. Like obviously he's too much of a supportive 'wants to be your friend' officer and it'd put him in a whole position that forces him to face his own feelings of insecurity about what he's lost. Thank goodness Isher isn't technically in his chain of command (yet... until Viracroix inevitably decides to complicate things for everyone).
Ah, the existential crisis of justifying attraction and what you believe is love.
This is why this comic is so great. These are questions and struggles we have all had. But they get put here in an unabashed manner, just the way we feel them and experience them.
Then there is poor Lopin, the maniac genius that is handicapped by his own existence.

Lopin is not equipped for this. Also, have we gotten to see Isher yinglet-ized? I know Lopin's gotten his moment in the sun as a human, but I'm in need of a distraction from *waves at the world in general* so my curiosity is piqued. One would think she'd revel in having a more dainty figure, though the trade-offs might even out any glee.
Poor Lopin. I wonder if all of this wild exposure to new experiences will rub off on him a bit, a sort of quickfire social evolution in one individual? I'll bet Vizlet would love to see that!
In any case... please don't stop trying to be a good friend to all your new companions, little, guy.

just because you don't want to fuck em anymore doesn't mean you can't care about someone Isher.
but congratulations Lopin, you have successfully distracted her about having to fight her friend earlier. I can tell by the look on your face you're proud to have helped her out in this time of need. You truly are a good friend.

I consider this a good page in that it tackles an actual mental conflict people have.
People are the sum of their parts, and you can lose interest in someone due to the change over or revealing of there being a part you do sync up with so well.
She loved Kass for who and what he was, and he is no longer who and what he was. Life is change, and while Kass is Kass, Kass is also not Kass.
We are an ever-moving forward cast of "Out of Placers".

Nah she isnt a bad person... she is in love with Kass the human, not Kass the Yinglet. Bare biology is a valid part of attraction, you cannot love someone as a partner if you are not physically attracted to them. Anyone who thinks they can are either Ace.. wich is valid but exceedingly rare.. or is a virtue signaling hypocrit.
Oi there, OOPs gang! I'm here to remind you once again that there's a place called "Top Web Comics" https://www.topwebcomics.com/?home=3 that compiles comics from various places. There's a bunch of cool stuff there. They have monthly votes, so you can support OOPs there. You can vote once a day per device, so your PC, laptop, tablet, phone, etc.
I've noticed that you can sometimes even get in extra votes from different IP addresses, or if you're disconnected from your IP and open up again later.
It closed out last month at 747+ votes and 27th place. It's currently at 218 votes and 44th place. The highest it's reached is 24th place, and the top vote getters seem to end up with something over 20,000+ votes, at least recently.
Vote early, vote often! Help OOPs get noticed!

It's not just a question of orientation, Isher's dealing with -insecurity-. There's a lot to unpack here about who she was, is, and wants to be in relation to others.
Isher was bullied as a kid over being smaller; we've seen how integrating into this multiethnic community has been a big part of her recovery, but she's hitting a wall over the fact that other humans aren't attracted in-that-way to her. And Kass is the person who introduced her to this world and therefore the symbol of it in her eyes.
The ironic thing is, she's a huge, powerful woman and that's what makes her attractive. Compare her to Nell, who's so much smaller but acts like she had Isher's body. The difference is their backgrounds and how they feel about presence.
And look at the kind of imagery she associates with Kass; in her surface thoughts she visualizes this strong physical man - being gazed at with 'piercing' eyes and 'held' in someone's arms, are how you characterize otherwise neutral positions when you're sublimating your own sense of presence with the presence of someone else's body. Her own presence feels like it's overwhelming and undesired, which is a perfectly sensible feeling when you're being bullied over your body. Her fantasy of Kass reciprocating her love is one in which her own body finally ceases to matter, and Kass is the obvious choice for this fantasy because he's already done so much that she never expected.
But it tells you somewhere underneath it she's hidden away the parts of herself that are now free to accept and live in and use this body, but that also now remind her of those who used to be bigger than her. So when she tries to face it, she starts tumbling hornfirst into these automatic thoughts that have really painted her understanding of intepersonal connections. Shallow; superficial; bad; comforting ways to differentiate herself from the powerful peer figures of her past. But now it's maladaptive. Gotta unpack it.
And Lopin is the perfect outside sounding board for this. Lopin has none of these presumptions about love and strength and size. Lopin is naive in the most zen sense.

lol no, dear, you're not a bad person. Anyone saying physical attraction doesn't matter is lying. It is okay that you're not attracted to this new form they take, you clearly still like them. The new form just means you wouldn't be comfortable beyond friends as you're not attracted to that. Nothing WRONG with that, it's just... reality. It's not shallow, shallow would be if you weren't even interested in being friends now. That would mean you only cared about the physical. That's not what's happening here.
She’s spiraling. Quick! Reverse it.
Y’know, I love your little comments in the description. If only there was something you could do about this. Oh well. This is what happens when you give your creations free will.
Also, I have known “yinglet” has been a category for species for quite sometime; it still pretty wild to me that it’s official.
