Clash Of Titans
During the many years in which the culture of hunter clans slew monsters and beasts in Equestria, their followers had become quite superstitious and often carried small idols or talismans with them. These were supposed to ward off evil spirits or grant them victory over their beastly enemies during their next hunt.
For example, the eye of a cockatrice was supposed to keep vengeful ghosts away, the wing membrane of a changeling was supposed to make it easier to escape the unwanted gaze of their prey, and the fang of a cragadile was worn to grant the hunter enhanced physical strength.
So it was not surprising that the giant manticore hunter Titan Guard, who relied heavily on his enormous strength, carried many such teeth with him in a pouch or around his neck.
But he had witnessed how dark magic and gruesome unnatural infections could corrupt even the strongest hunter's body and lead to hideous mutations, something he wanted to protect himself against.
In a moment of calm on a cool autumn afternoon, he sought out Lead Walker, as he was friends with a mutant named Stage and hoped to obtain a protective object from him, since carrying parts of mutants' bodies is said to prevent mutations.
When Titan asked him if Stage would be willing to give up an ear or a tooth, they quickly agreed on a tooth. Then Lead had an idea. The changeling hunter explained to him with a smirk that Stage would not willingly give away his razor-sharp teeth and that the only way to get them was to knock them out of his jaws with a good punch, or blow with a warhammer.
Titan Guard had no problem with violence, quite the contrary, but even he was reluctant to mess with a giant horse monster just for a few teeth, so he suggested an arm wrestling contest instead of a real fight.
That was something he enjoyed doing and did often. However, he was occasionally forbidden from doing so because he had broken several hunters' arms like rotten branches.
Lead knew that Stage would not be interested in such a contest without proper stakes and prizes, so he proposed something to Titan that he did not like at all, but he nevertheless agreed, stubbornly confident in his strength.
Shortly thereafter, Titan confronted Stage and issued his challenge to arm wrestle in exchange for some of this canine teeth.
He declined with a friendly grin, however.
“No chance, big guy,” he said fraternally, until Titan told him what Lead had advised him to offer.
If Titan Guard won, he could give Stage a powerful blow and keep every tooth knocked out, but if Stage won, he would have to willingly let himself be devoured and digested by the giant draft horse.
After a moment's thought, however, Stage's stomach growled. The chance to eat Titan Guard was simply too tempting.
He agreed, grinning again and flashing his sharp teeth.
Not intimidated in the slightest, Titan Guard defiantly slammed his elbow onto an overturned pillar carved from stone. Stage followed suit and said confidently and somewhat teasingly, “You're on!”
Before the two could measure their strength, Lead came in with a tray holding two jugs, one filled with wine and one with cider, and offered them some refreshments.
When Titan emptied his mug in one gulp, Stage glanced smirking at Lead: “That was your idea, right, bucko?”
Lead’s expression remained unchanged and he denied the accusation before Stage also emptied his mug, even swallowing it down along with the cider.
The two opponents locked arms and flexed their ample muscles.
Lead quickly took the tablet away, as he naturally wanted to know who would win.
He wanted to know whether Titan Guard was really stronger or whether the stone pillar would give way in their trial of strength.
And he wanted to know whether the ground Cragadile teeth in his comrade's wine would actually increase his strength.
