A clean rat is an unhappy rat
The end result. Irvine out of the tub, all his grime washed away, and he oozes misery and despair. He worked hard to get dirty!
Yet again you can see how he doesn't look nearly as fat and squishy when he's wet.
After I put the camera down I bundled him up in a towel and dried him off. Also since he's all but brainless all it took was a yogurt drop or two to help him forget this ever happened.

My hairless rat is rather used to baths as in the summer she is in quite the state of mess. The furred one I think would rather take a trip upstairs to meet my snakes or brave the child rather than have a bath lol (no these rats are not food, yes I can have rats as pets as well as snakes, please no debates on this).
I haven't had the guts to try to bathe the girls yet....
They definitely need it, but I'm planning to start out gradually.
Since Spazz can actually get nippy when shes pissed off, (She never breaks the skin, but she does take a halfhearted nip when pushed too far,) I'm not looking forward to the experience.

There's little pet wipes you can use although I've heard that baby wipes work just as well as a method of cleaning them without having to dunk them. I had a rat with a skin condition for a little while and it required him to have weekly baths, poor little thing.
I had thought of damp paper towels- but the baby wipe idea sounds better to me.
Thanks.
Both my girls came out of a chain pet store where they were never handled or socialized.
(Stocked for live snake food, though they would never admit it....So the employees didn't spend any time on them.)
Getting them used to handling has been a slow process, as I only have a limited amount of time per day to play with them- but they are better than when I started.
Now they plaster themselves to the cage bars every time I come near, and want out.
