there's a very specific reason the light is behind Shadow <3

was plotting things with my friend who writes Shadow and god I love this scene so much

Shadow arrived in Chief's universe, and Chief ended up finding him and taking him in to keep him safe from The Baron and Big Mama. A few weeks pass, they decide to cloak and go to the surface for once as humans, which was hard for both for different reasons. When it was time to return to the Hidden City, though, Chief blocked Shadow's path to keep him from going through the portal. They go back and forth, Chief makes it known he believes Shadow deserves better than the Hidden City- he deserves to stay on the surface, he belongs on the surface, he deserves to look up and see the stars or the clouds in the sky, see the moon or the sun. He deserves to feel the wind against him, feel the rain soak into his fur, the sun warm him.

Shadow returns to the Hidden City later, taking a different path, and returns to Chief. He makes it known what his choice is, that he's chosen Chief instead of living on the surface, that he'd rather be himself with Chief than live a fake life on the surface, and Chief collapses to his knees and cries.
