What is The Scale Academy?

The Scale Academy is a new Visual Novel project that I’ve started working on in the past few months. It is still extremely early in its development, and I’ve already written much of the script and designed some mock-up images as shown above (the game’s potential logo, and two screenshots)

A brief history about me – I am a solo developer for a game called ‘The Mystery of Caketropolis’, which I released around 5 years ago, and now I’m back to work on a new project.

Is this a standalone game? A sequel? A prequel?

The Scale Academy is two things.
It is standalone game, and so does not require any knowledge of my previous works to enjoy. The protagonist of this game is you – the player character.
It also serves as a prequel spin-off to my comic series, Patented Pants, as the story takes place several years prior when Coalt was still studying at the Scale Academy. The game will feature numerous dragon characters from Patented Pants where you can explore their backstories and discover how they became the characters they are now.

SFW? NSFW? Kinks?

I plan to release The Scale Academy as a SFW game, to market the game to a broader audience instead of sticking to a niche. I am aware of expectations of vore and/or nsfw themes to appear in the game, but I think the best option would be to include them as mods, rather than adding them into the base game. That would ensure that I can make the story as good as I possibly can without compromise, while keeping all the “fun” stuff optional through mods.

Planned gameplay features?

Since this is still very early in development, here are some of the ideas I’ve prototyped a little that I think I’ll be able to include in the game. But this list is subject to change drastically depending on how development goes in practice.
>Since it is a dating sim, you’ll be able to date 4 different dragon characters (anthro and feral). Your choices matter. There are multiple endings, which also contribute to the overarching narrative.
> A turn-based ‘combat’ system for your school classes. A battle of wits, in other words. The music changes and evolves as the battle progresses.
>Some minor exploration. Visit different parts of the school campus to find & interact with your schoolmates.

The roadmap from here on now…

Technically, I can make this game on my own just as I had done with The Mystery of Caketropolis. But it will take several years, and I think I want to explore the option of working with other people on this project, not only to significantly reduce the development time, but also create a better game by focusing on the aspects that I’m confident in (art, music, storytelling), and collaborating on parts of the development that I’m weak at. I want to explore what options I have before I decide to just go for it on my own.

How do I stay updated on this project?

I have a public discord server which was made originally for The Mystery of Caketropolis. It is currently inactive as the lifecycle of that game has concluded years ago.
That server will now be used for The Scale Academy. It will take months for me to completely refurbish it for the new game, but feel free to join it if you want updates on the development of The Scale Academy, including potential openings if you wish to help with aspects of the development as they come up.
