I'm in too much pain to do much besides sit up for a few hours (and lie down for much longer to recover), and I miss playing basketball now that it's the winter. So instead of thinking on how much I miss it I just drew my fursona playing :)
My pickup group plays summers at a local park in the evenings when the weather allows, until we're too tired to keep going or until sundown. They provide the chairs and anyone who would like to play is welcome. I'm currently the fastest person we've got on the court which means I'm experiencing being good at sports for the first time in my life. I've really enjoyed connecting with sports in a way I really couldn't when I was able bodied. Being a bullied depressed asthmatic really didn't do me any favors. I love the wind in my hair when I really have momentum and I LOVE when I get to lean back in my sport chair, put all my weight on the stabilizing back wheel, and spin for as long as I can.
(I also LOVE checking people! The thrill of pride when someone is ahead of me and I power past them just to swerve right in front of them, cutting them off completely! The BANG when they run right into me, when they struggle to get away from me after because I don't let them out of my sight. UGH it's so good.)
Even if you don't need a wheelchair I really recommend wheelchair basketball. It's fantastic for your traps, deltoids, and rotator cuffs. Plus you'll gain a new appreciation for how much work it takes to move in a wheelchair lol
