I got fluffy mail! The best kind of mail. The first of the fur swatches are starting to come in, so I can choose colors. Creature will be mostly black, with dark grey details and dark red highlights.
The red here is a burgundy. Ideally, I wanted a dark maroon, but it exceptionally hard to find any dark red in a good pile length or density. Im concerned it is a little more plum than I wanted, and it's not as high quality as others. But it's all good enough to use. If it ends up matching the high density and extra long, I may just use it.
The black and grey are from Big Z's new stretch line. I got the whole sample card. I can't speak highly enough of these, they far exceed my greatest expectations! Even at 180 degrees of bend and full stretch, I cannot make any balding show. They're extremely soft, and appear to be quite strong. I was worried they would stretch too easily, but this is ideal.
These two colors are my absolutes. They are the only high stretch fabric I am aware of, in a 1" pile. The others must match them. My biggest concern is how light the grey is, I had hoped it would be darker. It's a little darker than the image, but still the lightest of my 3 colors. I'm not sure what to do about it, I may just deal with a lighter color here. It won't look bad, but not what I was aiming for. These materials will eventually make up 90% of the body suit and legs, once I get that far.
Now I need to buy a brush, so I can experiment with trimming!

For now, the plan is the head and hands. Tail later on, if I have enough money left. Eventually upper body, and I don't really know how I'll do legs/feet yet. I plan to wear this with outfits that I already have, and maybe some I'll put together for it.
I'm planning on doing glove style hands, with claws. One of my biggest concerns with fur right now is finding a matching short pile red for the fingers, it'll have to be so short that shaving won't work well. I'm kind of taking notes for the tail, if I end up being able to do it.

I will have to provide you a photo of what my "walking" tails look like. These are tails mounted on a belt, so I can wear a tail when walking around when out-of-costume or wear the costume as a partial.
With short-fur, there is a plush-fur which is typically short and can work for palms of gloves. I would not recommend felt or plush-felt. I used that many years ago and tends to stretch apart.

I'd like to see it! That's the idea, something that could attach to a belt for ordinary outfits. I'll have a lot of fun with this as a partial, when it's done.
Right now I'm looking at "minky" fabrics. I want it to be 1/8" length, in the highest mobility area. I think it should work well. For just the fingers! The palm on back to the elbow joint I plan to use one solid piece, shaved to different lengths. Not certain on what fabric yet, and I don't yet know what I'll do for pads.
Sorry I haven't replied to your email yet, by the way. Had a busy holiday fur once, and I'm just getting back into things.
