Yeah, I remember. I think we had trouble deciding on what era to draw up though. I'm more of a 1940s tech artist while you were hinting at something from the Civil War era. Keep in touch though because you always post such interesting images, and they're well researched too.

Really? Well riding in a train these days is still a popular Tourist activity. There are some lines that even provide overnight sleepers and fine dining, but they can be costly. Still, I'll bet you're one of the types who'd give anything for a cab ride in an old steam powered locomotive, right?

I'd love to be able to ride the Orient Express, or the TransCanada, etc...

But yes, even better, I'd love to ride up in the cab on an old steam powered locomotive. That would be amazing and a real treat!

First of all, bring a set of ear plugs. Bring bottled water too. Not only enough for yourself, but also a couple extras as a nice gesture to the Fireman and engineer. Who knows? They might let you turn a tap or at least yank the whistle lanyard.

If I ever get the chance I will definitely take that advice.

It's not a real folk song, but a Tin Pan Alley composition that was first performed in a long gone cafe in Venice, California, but it became so famous that it DID turn into a real folk song, which is a song everybody knows and can sing, but don't know the origin of. So, take that, Woody Guthrie!

Wow! I didn't know that. My friend Jim visited the Casey Jones Museum a couple years ago, so I guess there's some base to the myth. Still, it's interesting to know the song had "Local" origins.
