I decided to make myself a small gift and spend the evening to draw something more complete with Rattmarr. It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing)
I really like this guy, and it's strange because he's kind, and I rarely have much affection for my truly kind characters. Perhaps the reason it's that he's quite complex as a person, and it took a lot of effort for him to keep this kindness after everything he's been through.
The idea for this portrait came to me when I was thinking about the difference between people as they are and how we see them.
The light in Ratt's hands symbolizes Aerys. For him, her light was especially bright because that's how he saw it. I suppose I could say that it was partly his own light that he projected onto her image. In any case, I can't say he saw Aerys as someone completely different from who she really was. Perhaps he admired her excessively, but to some extent he needed to believe in her light and strive to protect it. That is what saved him, even though it almost destroyed him in the end.
And here I wanted to show how he protects this light (Aerys's and his own) from the surrounding darkness and cold. Not fiercely, but carefully and patiently, with a sad smile on his face.
(I swear I'll tell you more about Aerys someday, but if you want to know more about her, I wrote something in the description for these two drawings:
the squad
follow the light)
