Nah he just got fat as he gets older.

He's not fat, he's big bone. More like a dwarf build in using thick muscle to craft tools and weapons

You don't have bones in your abdominal area - the ribs split before reaching that point.

Oh! It is! The main character’s mother is overprotective and wraps his brother in so many layers of clothing that he can’t put his arms down. He gets knocked over and get stuck in the snow, like a turtle on his back.
