The Rex Rabbit is my absolute favorite breed and I currently own 2 of them! They have broader heads than other breeds and the cutest short curly whiskers, but those are just very small details that I appreciate- they are famouly known for their insanely soft fur! It's short and dense with a bouncy plush-like feel. so velvety! In fact, the breed has such lavish fur, it was nicknamed "the king's rabbit", where "rex" is a Latin word meaning "king". This fur type is actually caused by a gene mutation, but doesn't cause any complications to the rabbit. The breed originated in France, 1919, where it was perfected and showcased in the Paris International Rabbit Show just 5 years later, in 1924. That same year, they were imported to the USA and officially recognized by the ARBA (American Rabbit Breeders Association). They come in many different colors (the ARBA recognizes 16 colors, and the BRC (British Rabbit Council) recognizes 32!) and are primarily bred for their pelts, although, they also make excellent meat rabbits and family pets, to which they are also widely bred for!
