Valdiri is a zebra who prefers to live outside of her herd. Being born with bright purple stripes is bound to make you stand out in a crowd of black and white. (Hence her surname “Purestripe”; being relieved of all blackness) Sure, Val prefers to think for herself, but to others she comes off as bossy, incessant, and vain.

Originally Valdiri was shipped off to a herd, but she really wasn’t a fan of it, so she decided to move out to Tubondo where Solano and the others reside. But during her time in her herd, she met her closest party-girl friend, Spitha. Although she often gets into messes created by Spitha, she usually knows how to rectify them. To others, Valdiri comes off as very competitive and is often wants to be seen as the best in certain subjects.

In terms of magic, Valdiri’s father was once a shaman, passing on his knowledge onto a young foal Val. Zebras like her are pros at controlling plantlife, usually the one in charge of making fields grow. But the special thing that Valdiri seems to have, more than most zebra shamans, is that she has the ability to “speak” to flowers, almost like she can telepathically communicate with them. Even other zebra shamans find this a bit strange, but it might have been something Valdiri’s father had once before.
