"Please, do not take this defeat as a failure. Only I have the strength needed to save this world."
___________
Solazaziel, the Avatar of Soul, a major character in my Echoes Apart project.
Though Solazaziel's goal is to save Aurius, his approach makes him an antagonist in Echoes Apart. Possessing a stubborn will, he's big on speeches and direct action, but not so good at listening to reason once he's settled on a path he thinks is right.
Unfortunately, Solazaziel is probably one of the most powerful Avatars through sheer familiarity with his abilities. To him, using his command over Soul comes as naturally as breathing and while any Avatar will burn out if they overuse their powers, Solazaziel's tolerance for repeated usage is much higher than most.

This looks superb! I really like the colour combo of this sort of magenta and black, they work really well together. The most striking thing about it is the mass of souls and their vague sense of form - I love the faces and claws emerging from the mist, and how they connect the background and foreground with Solazaziel due to how they interact with him and surround him. To me their faces all read as anguished and crying out, or maybe aggressive, especially with the reaching out of their claws. That said, perhaps they're just imagery being used by Solazaziel to make a statement or demonstration about the suffering in the world that he wishes to stop.
I had no idea he was so familiar with his power versus the other Avatars, though. Does he use it much more frequently on a daily basis? I'm made to wonder how he ended up so familiar with it, where if that's from casual use or more important purposes. Maybe he's earned some of the over-confident and self-assured impression he gives here if he does have the skill with his powers to back it up.
Despite those impressions though, I feel like the domain of Soul would make one extremely empathetic and emotionally-driven - so I could imagine why he'd have such strong motivation to save the world, at least. I always got the impression that Joiros, relating to Mind, was more distant/calculating as a sort of counterpart of what I imagined as Solazaziel's more volatile/emotional sort of nature, but I could be wrong. So while this image and quote give the impression of Solazaziel being sort of separate from us, isolating himself as the only capable saviour, I would bet this is driven on a more personal level than he's letting on. These are just my impressions, anyway~

Thank you! <3 I was definitely going for an anguished and/or aggressive look to the souls and you're right about it being imagery to an extent, used as a symbol of people's suffering and also of his ability to hear and give voice to the cries of their souls. Though there is an aspect of channelling the real feelings of both the living and the dead, using that to empower and shape what he's creating here.
Solazaziel is nearly always using his powers, even if it's just a little. It's often just casual use, like leaving a piece of his soul behind to keep an eye on something if he has to leave the room for a minute, but also he sometimes uses it to attend multiple events at once if his presence is expected or other uses of a more taxing variety. He's still a little too confident in himself, but it's absolutely not without merit.
That's honestly an accurate read on him. He likes to project the image of someone that's strong, calm and in control, but he's always been the emotional one and his actions are driven by that. If anything, the distance is how he keeps himself focused and steels his own heart when he feels he can't afford to falter. His desire to save the world is out of a genuine desire to save people who are suffering, but his insistence on it being him specifically who saves the day is wrapped up in and fuelled by a lot of personal feelings.

Oh man that smoke breath looks so cool. Took me way too long to realize that there were faces and hands in it. Is it only made of his own soul and he manipulates it to look like that, or are there some other dudes caught in there and they're kinda pissed about it?
I'm not even sure how to describe that gaze. Can't really call it contemptuous because he'd have to actually feel some kind of way about the object of his attention; it's more like an unimpressed: "Oh, it's you," with a side of perplexed: "You again?"
"…his command over Soul comes as naturally as breathing…" I see what you did there.

Thank you! The base of it is very much his own soul and energy, shaped how he wants it to be. It's boosted by traces of other souls but not actual full people, it's probably a bit more like asking someone's soul to lend a scream. There isn't really anyone in there, but what they're feeling is.
There were so many other ways I wanted to do little cheeky references to the title in the description, but that was the only one that ended up working, lol!
