Anytime you give money to ANYONE, only ever give what you can afford to never get back. Because even if the other person is 100% trustworthy, if they are in a situation where they need money there is a chance things will get worse or not work out the way you both expect. If it used on "X" thing and its supposed to be paid back within 6 months but unexpected "Y" happens, you gotta be prepared.

Not saying friends/family cannot or should not give/loan each other money, just that if it isnt done right you can ruin relationships. Money sadly complicates everything.

Can't say i've ever done this for a family member, though i have given away over $25,000 of my own money to help friends. Even when i knew Majority of the time I was never getting paid back. It was always puppy dog eyes and friends telling me I will pay you back i swear. I always told myself ya sure, i think the only reason you like me as a friend is because i Bail you out of Jail or bail you out of debt your bail you out with rent or bills or getting your car fixed etc.. Ppl will always turn to someone whom they think they can take advantage over.

I always am just to nice, I already know i'm losing money but i just do it anyways. Because in my lifetime money isn't important to me and never has been. So whats $25,000 to me honestly. It means nothing, more so the way i see it. I did a good deed and now the problem lies on that persons shoulder if it happens again. Because those who borrow we are not friends ever again. Thats my policy for borrowing. If you want my help or money to bail you out. May as well walk away from me as a friend. because i already know that you don't care about me you just want my money.
