INTRODUCTION:
___
This message was started on December 31, 2012.
I am writing this for information on future civilizations who may be advanced enough to rebuild what we have lost. I am one of the few who survived the end of our civilization, by our apocalypse. You may have already found our landmarks we left behind, if they survived, such as the big green statue with the torch on top. This is the Statue of Liberty, built in New York as a symbol of freedom. The freedom we survived in, thrived in, was soon demolished by the end of the world as we knew it.
CHAPTER 1: Signs of the End
The morning of December 21, 2012 began as any normal day would. People who were not on Christmas vacation arose to coffee, and perhaps a newspaper, then off to work. Little children were waking up to cereal and cartoons, and enjoying the simple humor portrayed in the moving animations. They looked foward to Christmas, and making cookies for Santa Claus, who would bring them gifts and joy.
As the day progressed, strange things started to happen. Radios started to emit odd static noises, but nobody seemed to notice. Soon, the lights began to flicker.
"What happened?"
"Probably just a shorted power line or something."
All of a sudden, radio, television, and cell phone signals were interrupted with a faint message.
"Incoming message from the president of the United States. This is an emergency broadcast. I repeat, this is an emergency broadcast. The sun has emitted a huge burst of charged particles, bigger than we've ever seen, also known as the solar maximum. This acts as an EMP, disabling all electronically powered devices. Please discontinue the use of your cars, or any othe
"
The message ended in static. As if in sync, every car, and the entire power grid got fried and shut down. Collisions filled the air, along with the screams of terrified individuals. Enormous mobs filled the stores looting whatever they could grab. Gunshots rang in the city, as people frantically tried to survive.
The darkness of night soon came, and the usual glow of the night sky was absent. The stars were more visible than ever. Alas, even the tranquility of the night sky couldn't quell the human instinct of surviving at whatever cost neccesary, even slaughtering your once close friends for what they had. Crime did not cease as the night came. No one slept, for panic filled the streets. The nature of the situation was almost claustrophobic. Not being able to go anywhere quickly caused the feeling of entrapment and fear. Madness set into the minds of the once sane individuals. The world turned insane. Many people hoped the power would come back on, and that order would be restored to the frantic world. It never came.
CHAPTER 2: Solar Maximum?
Dawn filled the skies on the morning of December 22, 2012, revealing the destroyed, charred landscape of buildings that exploded by the unstable mix of crashed cars, gas and gunshots. The pavement was torn apart by gas pipes underground that had blown up. Bodies filled the streets. However, many survivers were unaware that the destruction and bloodshed had only just begun.
Somehow, in the distance, the sound of a static filled message played,
"This is the president of the United States. If anyone is listening to this, that was no mere solar maximum that shut down our country, and destroyed innocent lives. This very well may have been the beginning of an invasion plan. I have been viewing top secret files of things behind the sun, and I fear that the so-called "solar maximum" was actually extra-terrestrial spaceships, using the sun to blast the earth with EMPs to disable us from preventing them from coming. Soon, they will arrive at our planet. I don't know why, but they will arrive. So, I advise every single one of you who survived, to get somewhere safe immediately. Keep your radio handy, as I may broadcast future messages which will help you. God help us all.
"
I had got separated from my family when the EMPs hit, and I hoped they were alright so that together, we could have more of a chance of surviving the brutal, cold world. I thought of them as I drifted into sleep in an abandoned building.
CHAPTER 3: Family Reunion
I awoke to the sounds of familiar voices in the distance. I quickly ran outside to see who it may be. It was my family, but there was only my little brother and sister.
"HEY!!!!" I screamed.
"He's still alive??" my sister asked.
I ran towards them and we hugged.
"We thought you were dead"
"Nope. I hid in that building over there. There's supplies in there so you should join me for breakfast. What happened to mom?"
"I don't know. We couldn't find her."
"Maybe we'll find her later. Come on."
After breakfast, we found some extra large backpacks, and stored as much supplies we could fit in them. I also found 5 bicycles, 2 katana swords, and 7 guns with alot of ammo, and I gave my sister and my brother 2 guns, and a bike each, and taught them how to shoot. I gathered some cans as a makeshift shooting range.
"Ok so you take off the safety and aim..... and pull the trigger."
*GUNSHOT*
"Wow that was loud."
"You'll get used to it."
"So, *gunshot* where do we go?"
"Well, we should try and find a self-sufficient house with farmland, so we can make our own food. Plus, being in a city isn't very wise considering the crime, and dwindling supplies."
"But we're not near farmland."
"I never said we were. *gunshot* Lets start biking."
We put the guns in our pockets, and ventured on.
CHAPTER 4: Finding Hope
We rode for miles on our bicycles, searching for a farm to live on
until the invasion passed, and civilization returned to normal. Far into the distance, there was an empty-looking farm with a house in the middle.
"Lets go check it out"
As we got closer to the house, we could see into the broken windows, and it appeared empty. Suddenly a long rifle poked out of the window, and shot at us.
"Why are you trespassin'?" The farmer asked.
"We thought your house was empty, and we needed a place to stay."
"You're not stayin' here! NOW GIT!!!"
As we rode on, we noticed a similar farm.
"Ok. You guys stay here."
I pulled out my swords.
"I'll go check it out."
I cautiously walked towards the house and asked if anyone was occupying it. No answer came, so I opened the door. The place was vacant.
"Its all clear! Come on!" I screamed
I looked outside, and there was two thugs holding a gun to my siblings' heads.
"Now, y'all better give us your supplies or I'll blow their heads clean off" The thug demanded
I took my guns out with lightning speed and took aim and shot. They both fell to the ground.
"Woah.." I gasped in amazement.
"Come on! The place is empty!"
At last, we found refuge on an abandoned farm. We found hope.
At least, for now.
CHAPTER 5: Christmas Invasion
The morning of December 25 came, and the air was frigid. I walked outside to view the sunrise, and what I saw was not a sunrise.
In the distance, huge ships were demolishing the city we once lived in.
My brother walked out and saw the destruction and started crying.
"What if mom was there?"
"She wasn't" I reassured him, to bring ease to the pain.

Sounds like a good outline, I think you sould try tofollow someone throughout the day and gradualy include all the abnormalities as the day progresses. Also just an observation, nobody would know an EMP would be on the way untill all the electronics where fried and there would be no way for mass contact after the attack afterwards
Overall a pretty good base concept, just needs to be built upon. With time you may end up with a full blown novel
