Ah! In this case they're primarily aesthetic. Just a way to pretty up her claws, make them look more noticeable/menacing. They also serve a practical function to help protect the claws from damage! Since living in a technological society, they use them to gasp and manipulate objects other than flesh, which might break their tips or cause them to split.
