It isn't satisfying to work for a world where I am tolerated,
why would it be any different to be offered up to those who only agree to tolerate me.
How long does tolerance last? What conditions does it fold?
There's something so very insecure about accepting it.
Maybe wiser, smarter, more eloquent prose has been written about it,
I'm just one brutish fag on the road
Yet I am what I am,
& I love who I love
& I believe very strongly that this life could be more than it is-
& after a lifetime of having my own indignation, for my own rights exhausted
I find myself renewed with vigor that it's not only me I protect,
but those I love
& those I have yet to love
those who will come after me
Who will find me, like bones & rubble in the refuse of the world we live in now
Will they say of me, also- "this one did not do enough, tsk tsk!" ?
...
I have welcomed intolerance into my life,
not so very hateful. Far more scared. Scared of the things they love most-
Scared of the watchful Eye that would be on them every move they make
How tiresome & bothersome this world is to need to bear that incessant probing, on top of it all.
I may be just one lunatic with a pencil & some printing equipment & the next few years promised to me
But I am going to proceed & carve the names that are like magic spells to me, rich with affect & wonder-
Carve them right into the edifice of what I work on, what all my life I've wanted to work on
but did not dare to dream it was possible until just about a year ago, today.
When I realized that Paradise is always worth laying the first stone in the road for, right here & now
I wish for a world that will welcome all that is precious to me & I will tirelessly pursue that end.
I may just be a faggy fox with a pencil,
but I'll write to the future, & with any luck
light another wick that dreams of Paradise
