After the Ancients were defeated, he surrendered along with a few other Advent soldiers.

The leader of the small Resistance cell was an old man named Jim, grumpy, with a scratchy beard and a wooden pipe always stuck in his mouth.
After some discussion, the two sides agreed to work together for a while.

It's a bit shortcuted but there is mostly the thing.

In my Viper's case, "Cicha" got her freedom from Elders in the one of Poland's cities, overran by the Lost as the Elders ruined the state when it refused to surrender (hence there is no such region in the game, it is Lost region) She got connected with the remains of Polish Armed Forces through local resistance cell and caught an eye of spec ops unit "GROM". For pledging loyalty to the case and state, she was given her chosen name and rank of sergent for her military experise in the resistance.

Eventually, she caught attention of XCOM in joined operation to take down the blacksite, causing some mistrust. However, XCOM learned to respect her, she was offered to join in but she chose to remain with GROM.

She got her nickname "Cicha" - silent, because of her ability to remain unseen, unheard.

Sound very nice ! A lot of difference between the two and how it goes for them but feel right ! Also I love killing the horde of Losts in cities, this is so enjoyable to do in the game !
