Name: Irina Cykes (hero name Ataraxia)
Age: 35
Powers: Advanced short-range telepathy, able to target & pry into the mind of any fauna in a 10-foot radius.
Weaknesses: Classified [Physically average, better at single-target hypnosis than multi-target, prolonged use of telepathy can cause migraines]
Figured this page was due for a change-up from all the mobian stuff amidst the latter half of the Returners RIOT sale, so enjoy another of the series I've been fixated on the last few months- the "Victory Vixen" anthro hero series created by
ChaosCroc, AzureArcaneArts & Demothesis among others. Y'all probably heard of it before when I made Direwolf (whose page you should look at if you haven't before! https://www.furaffinity.net/view/62267584/), but I can't just stop at ONE costumed colorful character (or villain, in Master Minos's case). It's too fun making other OCs for the place ^^
Like Connell, Dr. Cykes works for the Society of Superheroes, but she occupies a much higher position in the shady "Institute" that does much of SOS's Research & Development. Ever since she was a young girl, hearing reports of & sometimes in dangerous proximity to villain attacks, Irina has been obsessed with the question of "Why do criminals act the way they do?", and as the SOS's Chief of Villain Rehabilitation, she seeks to put her psychiatric degree towards 'curing' the maladies of individual faults in villains. In addition to her work in assisting with psych evals for registered SOS heroes, she keeps extensive profiles on the various villains encountered or arrested by the organization, helping develop a D-through-S classification system for villains by threat level and conducting counseling sessions with villains to try to understand their motives and redirect them towards more amicable living. When normal discussions fail, she breaks out her metafauna powers...
Ataraxia's telepathy is best understood like onion layers; on the surface of her 'scans' of an individual are their active thoughts and current focuses, beneath that are emotions and things her target may try to “resist” being read, beneath that are their more general goals and priorities, their logical brain, and finally the target's core memories & formative experiences and their ‘nature’ lie at the very center. Each layer taker her a degree of effort to unpeel & be able to affect, especially with strong-willed individuals or those trained in resisting mind control- but in the secure confines of the Institute, she's got pretty much all the time she needs to unravel her patients are her own pace. Sooner or later, anyone can be disassembled and put back together.
Dr. Cykes is one of my more morally-grey OCs, but one I really enjoy the psychology of. She thinks of herself as doing a good deed for Key Lime at large despite the obvious moral issues, and considers it the preferable alternative to a 'let live and fight another day' perspective most heroes would take on handling villains. To her, heroes are responsible for the actions of villains they arrest & leave alive, and the damage to bystanders or property inflicted by such villains is no less important than the lives of the perpetrators- putting her perspective in other words, "Those who commit violence and curtail the rights of others with their freedom of choice do not deserve to have it."
...Plus, sometimes it's fun to flip the script and purify villains into brightly-colored heroes/heroines >.>
