When Tashira Rucson first noticed Nyx, she was still training to be a wrestler at a pro wrestling school near the city of Seattle, Washington. Tashira realized she had great potential and attempted to lure her to FCW when she became general manager for the company, but Nyx (whom was using a different name at the time) refused, having already promised the wrestling school's head trainer that she would join their own wrestling federation instead. While Tashira was disappointed, they kept in touch and she secretly vowed that one day, Nyx would be a vital part of FCW's roster.

Nyx's involvement with the head trainer's fed lasted only four months before she was fired and humiliated in front of the locker room as they said Nyx was too lazy in the ring and needed more training. Nyx felt she had already plateaued and experienced bouts of depression while doing sporadic matches in different feds throughout the American Northwest to supplement her primary warehouse inventory job. Even after FCW closed its doors three years ago, Tashira still kept in touch with Nyx, encouraging her to be passionate about the art of pro wrestling and realizing her potential to be even greater. When FCW came back under Tashira's ownership, she quickly called up Nyx for a potential contract. It took some coaxing but she finally won Nyx over, becoming one of the first contract signings for the company.
