One of the newest additions. I've recently gotten into arachnids..mostly scorpions so far.
She is awesome. She's very docile - moreso than the Emperor I held at the show. She's also got interesting stripes (the flash kinda doesn't show how pretty she is)....
She has an intty bitty stinger that I probably wouldn't feel if she got me. Apparently they're harmless as far as poison goes.
She's a gift for both my dad and me..and he has named her "Cleopatra".
She is indeed a female. =) ((Read journal for more info about my trip to the show))

What the guy said in the case of flat rock scorpions is that females have a very small tail. Males have an EXTREMELY long tail.

Those two you have linked are two different types of Flat Rocks, btw. The first is a: Hadogenes troglodytes and the 2nd is what you and I have: Hadogenes paucidens. A good way to tell the sex for sure other than just looking at the tails/claws is by actually putting it in a clear container and checking out the pectines on the underside. Males will usually have much bigger/longer ones than females.
Some scorpions like B. jacksoni it's easier to tell by their tails/pincers. Females will have a smaller tail and pincers as males will have much bigger looking ones.
Either way that's a great looking scorp you got there. =)

Ahh...alright, thanks for the info! I'm a fairly new scorpion owner. I got her at the REptile show and I was only told how to tell the sex of my flat rock by the tail. So I looked up online what a male would look like and was like. He didn't tell me what type of flat rock I had, just that it was an african flat rock and that the one I had was super docile and tame. Which she is!
I haven't gotten her to eat from a pair of tweazers yet - but the guy said I probably wouldn't see her eat.
Whereas I recently managed to feed one of my Emp's with tweazers..it was funny! Held the cricket by a pincher - she grabbed it and immediately began nomming.

Oh yeah, these are bad about not eating. They can go for a year or so without eating a thing. But dont let it freak you out, that's just the way they are. VERY slow growers too. It can take them 7 yrs to reach full adult and they can live up to 25 yrs. So maybe not as active as emps or something, but still one of my absolute favs.
Ah. Well, she eats regularly. She gets crickets once a week like the others and the crickets are usually gone within a few days. She's also kind of active at night - I've noticed lately that every night she comes out and roams her cage and tries to 'crawl up the glass'. Lately she's just been sleeping in one of her dens.
