Fast Food World level layout samples 1
Second set
Finally found myself some time to bring together all the level assets I drew months ago and make some layout samples with them.
My game project was supposed to feature several food themed worlds and obviously I started with the fast food one, of course.
I had to use NES limitations wisely, with limited color palettes and small tilesets there's not many things I could do and the final set of assets consisted of french fries, burgers, ketchup and mustard bottles, soda glasses and bottles, straws, chicken nuggets, bacon strips, corndogs and hotdogs, no pizza sadly but I saved it for another location.
While working on this first world I also came up with idea to give each world two tilesets for two types of levels, one with smaller food and one with really gigantic food while sharing some common elements like straws, small fries boxes or bacon strips in a fast food world example. It was a spontaneous decision at first but then I decided to keep it as a common motif for each world.
Another thing that I decided to turn into this game's stand out feature is making nearly all the food based enemies canine-coded with just few exceptions. Most of my OCs are canines, I love canines a lot so it was very expected to put them in such setting. You can see 4 types of enemies here, burger, ketchup bottle, ketchup and mustard monsters, flying fries box and flying jaws with first 4 sporting dog features in their design.
I haven't made any GUI elements like health, time or any other counters yet, for now it's more just layout samples with some sprites. However, at least these still scenes were made in NAW, converted as .rom files and tested on emulator, so you can tell all this stuff could be turned into a game without a doubt.

This is a good question because boss designs are the kinkiest thing of this project in a contrast to relatively innocent level and enemy designs. I already did 4 bosses this summer, I just need to deal with turning all the level assets into level design samples before I can share them. Fast Food world boss concepts are coming next.
