Nathan was 4 when Realmfall happened. And in the aftermath, the US took a sharply religious turn (Big surprise!) and having a mark to one of the Divine Realm gods is generally a social points deduction. They can't trust you, and so on. That's at best, and between that and the interspecies first marriage, Nathan spends most of his time on an EU Permanent Resisdent visa. His parents still live in the USA though, so he has occasional trips back. Seems he forgot the motorcycle gloves this time...

Three pantheons of ancient pagan deities descend once more. They perform actual miracles. Their followers travel the world. The dying are revitalised, those with the most serious of injuries are healed. And yet still the faith of Christians and in their conspicuously absent God remains utterly unshakable.
I find this to be very realistic. A true believer's conviction is so strong that no force in all the realms could change their mind. Up to and including a personal encounter with an actual god.
I can easily see a few of the more determined churches would even go so far as to send missionaries in to the realms in an attempt to save those they believe were tricked in to the worship of demons and false idols. I'm sure this would be quite entertaining for the locals.
I imagine things are a lot worse in the Islamic world, though, with their extreme views on apostacy and proud rejection of religious plurality. A lot of those countries would make it a capital offence to bear a mark, forced or voluntary, and ban entry to the country for life for anyone who had set foot in the realms.
