In some ways I consider Sonic to be a spiritual concept, though it would not look that way at the surface or in the games...

But, can you imagine how it would feel to move that fast? And to run on the surface of the ocean?

He is running accross the ocean very fast, and the yellow coloring near his head symbolizes an illuminated consciousness. He is going to stop Robotnic, though himself having no weapons and no assistance. Alone with only his mind and his body, he is to defend an entire island paradise of un-touched nature from the mundane technical contraptions and armies which are moving ever-closer unto sacred places.
