Thankfully Travis is kind enough to get Val his pet dog and let up on bein' aggressive because he knows that Val is severely depressed.

that's good and all but Val still needs someone who actually cares about him and loves him imho. Pets are great and all but (speaking as someone with severe and lifelong depression with an ESA) they are not a replacement for the respect/love that another person can give you

Oh trust me as someone with depression myself I know the feelin'. The only other character that Val can turn to is Travis. Even though Travis owns his soul he is still kind (when not provoked).
