Once I'd finished the Indiana Jones-inspired piece, a new thought took hold of me: I wanted to create some Tomb Raider content, especially since I loved the first game on the PSX so much.
The sketch came with ease - I liked it instantly, as it was exactly the scenery I had in mind. Of course, I didn't yet know how to color it, or what would actually happen when Lara pressed down on the lion's paw – the latter is left for the viewer's imagination. But coloring itself was my task.
So I mixed up a large puddle of a dark, earthy green, dampened the paper, and plunged the entire background into darkness—that worked quite well this time. I really like the bright, yet unintentional streaks because they look like rays of light. I wish I could have figured out what caused them. Was the paper already dry? Was the brush too dry or too wet? No clue. Why the lion statue (including its pedestal) didn't cooperate at all, nobody knows either. I was looking forward to that one because I had a very clear idea of how I could do it.
Nevertheless, I like the drawing as it came out because it somehow feels coherent (to me), despite the numerous technical flaws, the rather clumsy coloring of the statue's base, and some of the shading. :)
