On the eve of the highly anticipated film Zootopia 2, here is a compilation of images that I have produced of the anthropomorphic metropolis’ most famous vulpine citizen.

Nick Wilde Revoltech Figure Review
Arguably the most photogenic piece of merchandise related to 2016’s Zootopia, Kaiyodo’s Revoltech Nick Wilde articulated figure handsomely captures the deuteragonist’s vulpish good looks. Nick stands approximately thirteen centimeters from ears to feet. There are fourteen points of articulation; including both ears, shoulders, elbows, wrists, pelvises, feet, tie and tail. (While some commentators have complained about the lack of knee joins, these arguably would have compromised the symmetry of his proportionately short legs.) The figure’s central attribute is Nick’s removable face, which can wear one of four expressions – Happy, Sly, Worried, and Scared – and all of which have movable eyes. Accessories include five interchangeable hand paws (two open, two gripping, and right pointing), and one pair of casual sunglasses (attachable to notches in the ears). The nicely designed package also comes with a removable backdrop of the Zootopian skyline, and a grappling stand for posing the figure in more outrageous postures. (Nick’s feet are not the sturdiest, but his ample tail nicely acts as a tripod.)
This is a very well-crafted figure. The sculpt and paint job is exceptional; the details exact down to the floral patterns on his shirt. Although Nick’s Sly Face was my expression of choice (albeit unexpectedly necessitated; more on that below), the figure’s posability can accentuate any expression.
Unfortunately, the figure that I received had a design flaw: While the Sly face comes pre-affixed, the notches on the other three faces were misaligned. Consequently, I could not interchange the other faces without risking either their becoming permanently attached or split (and hence the profusion of Sly faces in the ensuing album). There also would have been room to include a fifth face (as was the case with Revoltech’s Judy Hopps figure), thus providing Nick with a “Savage” expression. Lastly, while the figure is certainly flexible, I would have preferred even greater flexibility so as to make Nick grab his tie, rest his chin against his paws, lift his arms above his neck, rest his paws on his knees, or lie down.
Lo and behold as I was completing this album Kaiyodo announced their partnership with Gong to produce a pair of new, larger and even more detailed articulated figures of Nick Wilde and Judy Hopps; just the kind of trick you would expect from this sly hustler!
