Not long after the Crash, humans had to evolve to be able to survive a world with seldom safe food to eat. One such ability is "vore" where one can swallow another whole giving them enough energy to function for weeks at a time. Though food supplies have stabilized, it is not enough to dissuade people from occasional "sampling" others when they get too hungry.
