I think you can characterize this as an exercise in free association. Emmet wears a kilt, so let's show him doing something prototypically Scottish. Hence, shot put.

And although his prediction seems somewhat exaggerated, I wouldn't bet against him winning the competition. Emmet may be getting up there in age but he's still built like a tank. Admittedly it's a Soviet-era tank whose parts are a bit rusted and takes more effort to get moving than it used to, but once he gets into position you should probably stand back.
