Sarani is born in the Night Pride to King Adhumita and his consort Kujali, the pride's ruling couple at the time. Her twin brother Kingo was originally set to inherit the throne as he was born before her, but that all changed when a small group of foreign lions joined the Night Pride.
After the prideless foreigners integrate themselves into their new home, Sarani ends up taking a shine to a young cub in the group named Mahaan. The two of them hit it off and became quite the duo as cubs, with Mahaan's wisdom and kindness and Sarani's quick wit. She and Mahaan were the best of friends, but as they reached adulthood, their friendship soon began to evolve into something more. Sarani's parents took notice of this, and since their eldest child Kingo was showing signs that he would be a very poor monarch, Adhumita and Kujali made a surprising announcement. Mahaan will be their heir instead of Kingo, and he will marry their daughter Sarani.
In time, Mahaan and Sarani are wed and they later welcome a litter of three cubs into the world: two girls and a son that will become the next ruler of the Night Pride. But sadly, Sarani's life comes to an unfortunate end shortly after her cubs are weaned. An aardwolf runs off with her son Sinh when she momentarily turns her back for a drink of water, and when she comes to his rescue, an enormous striped cat leaps out of hiding and attacks her, delivering a crushing bite to her neck. He and the aardwolf quickly flee the scene, and Sarani quickly dies from her injuries.
Unbeknownst to her now windowed mate and children, Sarani's death had all been part of a plan that was set in motion by her own brother, Kingo.
Sarani is Mondo!Simba's unnamed mother who gets killed in a flashback. She was clearly meant to be a knockoff Sarabi, so it only made sense to give her a similar name.
