Story of Sol | Day 409D - November 17th, 2741
Map of the Coal Peninsula
TRANSCRIPT
She led us through the city, passing by wooden structures, and even some old concrete/steel ones closer to the channel. Seems this place was a small STEEL port town back in the day, but recent constructions were out of wood, and followed an older style of architecture. Simpler, so maybe that could be why.
We arrived at the city hall, a building with clear naval inspirations. Then taking us inside her personal quarters away from STEEL's eyes and ears.
She explained that she was a former STEEL officer once upon a time and put her leadership skills to use trying to keep this place running, until she found herself running it entirely.
Of course, Lily and I were confused as to why she was still in power, thankfully she explained that too and the answer was rather simple. She made sure she, and her people, were the only ones that could do the job.
Now easier said than done. After the Kin left she turned only to her closest allies, former STEEL themselves, and used their expertise to weed out any STEEL sympathizers, then revolted against STEEL for their own autonomy.
Of course they lost, and pretty badly. Bit that was planned from the start. They forced a battle of attrition, making things as painful for STEEL as possible. but not so much that they just nuke the place. A fine line needed to be carefully tread. Thankfully they pulled it off where they could negotiate their terms of surrender, keeping leadership to "Bide our time" she says.
Implications are clear. Despite their situation, they still want to be free from STEEL control, and will leap at any opportunity they can.
And for us wielders, maybe we might find that spark...
