The earlier part of Carry On is a slice-of-life comic involving main character Kathy Grrsn, her co-workers at the newspaper, and her family.
Then on her 25th birthday she learns she is heir to a Duchy in Rackenroon, Africa, and she and her sister Sandy must go present themselves to their great-grandmother, the formidable (and slightly mad) Duchess Songween.
Their guide on the journey is Lieutenant Frederick Usiku Kruger, adjutant of the Duchess, who also happens to be betrothed to Kathy in a deal arranged by his extremely wealthy family.
I'd recommend starting at the beginning of the Rackenroon arc. There is A LOT of worldbuilding.
