Golden leaves crunched under Onk's claws as he passed through the warmly-hued forest. He paused to glance upward, taking in the beautiful sights around him.
A breeze danced between the trunks, sending a flurry of leaves tumbling down around his horns. Far above, sunlight filtered through the canopy in fractured bands, turning the air into golden dust. Birdsong and other chittering echoed from deeper in the woods, and the distant rush of a stream sounded softly beneath it all.
Onk drew in a deep breath; the air smelled of damp earth, moss, and the faint sweetness of fallen apples. For a moment, the world felt very still, as if the forest itself were holding its breath, watching him back.
