in lieu of being able to travel abroad, this is what I've been doing for the last three years on 11/11. getting my ass out to the desert to paint.

I went back to the state park where I painted the Flatiron back in April, but this time instead of rendering the mountain at a distance, I hiked up to the base and spent a couple hours in her shadow, painting one of the rock formations around Green Boulder. this painting features watercolors homemade from scratch! I was going for a premade 'desert palette' and I think it turned out pretty ok! this is also my first time working with regular watercolor in a long time. I think I like gouache a tiny bit more... but this diy kit performed really well, better than I expected.
