Because Cutter and Cricket are partners (in crime, when it comes to that), it seemed appropriate to give Cricket a reference sheet.

And a personality. Since Cutter depends on Cricket for his life he didn't want a horse who'd just blindly follow orders. Cricket has his own opinions and if he's convinced a different course of action is needed, he'll let Cutter know it.

In fact, he'll let Cutter know his opinion whether he asked for it or not.
