"Ladies and Gentlemen, Mesdames and Messieurs, welcome, welcome! Please be seated as taking stage tonight, travelling to us from the glittering lights of Paris, France, for your wonder and delight, the grand Illusionist Harley Lapine, III!"
In reality, this harlequin rabbit hails from Boston, born under the name Roger Coney, and has only ever been 'across the pond' as a performer. But when one is already being openingly deceptive to their audience, why not add an extra layer?
Unflappable on stage and in character, Coney can often be jumpy and nervous when it comes to real life...surprises.
I played this character in a TTRPG called Urban Jungle a few years back, run by
lustrian with
arterian21,
ERE, and
ffredxiii as fellow players. The setting was in the 1920's, on the RMS Olympic ("Old Faithful"), sister ship to the Titanic, where some...stolen goods and maybe a few murders complicated everyone's experience that trip. As you might imagine, it was up to our slapped together "crew" to figure out what the hell was going on.
Coney might not've had a very good time. He's like a prone-to-fainting Jonathan Creek.
Brilliant art done by the wonderful
