Well, we're finally here at the end of the Third Issue. Quite the humbling journey, I'd say.
The Fourth Issue will be the second to last entry, with the Fifth being the final. Originally, it was supposed to be a trilogy, but due to publishing being what it is, it's important to divide the story into chunks that are easier to put out in books without costing a fortune (lesson learned!). Third Issue is my favorite volume so far, but I personally am of the opinion that Basil gets better the longer it goes. The Fifth in particular is something I almost wish I could jump in the future for to see how people react.
Currently, I'm working on a spinoff of Spotting Basil called "Smashing Stars." It's rolling out on Patreon as I write this. Stars is kind of retroactively reconfiguring the characters from Basil to discuss the topic of pan/bisexuality. It does have allusions to weight and image and esteem, but it isn't the focus there as much as here. Since writing First Issue, I discovered I was pansexual and got immense hatred and lost friends over it. That heartache made way for creative expression. However, I've been careful to also respect the characters and not overwrite what their canon is.
I'm also working on a visual novel called Chains of Ahmsara. With the darkness of the world right now, I wanted to make a story that took cruelty and flipped it on its head. It's equally bleak and lighthearted. In many ways, it's the reverse of Stars, with a closeted older heterosexual man coming to terms with himself as a gay man. Not an unheard-of arc, but in combination with the rest of the themes, I think it'll be something special!

This is a great page because it feels like the opening card for Spotting Basil the Anime.
Been really enjoying the comic and seeing the growth of the characters. Always feels so real and does a great job of really capturing the depth of the relationships and how important listening to other people can be in our own journey and figuring ourselves out.
